    Exam Center:Philadelphia
    Exam Date:20.August.2007
    Result:Passed
Weeks for Result:email on 1st date
My Experience:I was very nervous. i was in a PM session and there was only 12 of us. actually the exam began at 4p and ended after 10:15p. But of course you had to be there by 3pm. I made mistakes in every case, and i still can remember it. I even forgot to wash my hands once. i didn't ask all the questions i should have, and i bet i missed some important PE points as well. I had more than enough time for most cases. I know that each SP can see and hear the nervousness in my voice. But with a smile, you can do wonders. My PE skills are my weakest link, but i hoped that i would get most of my points from the History-Taking. I preferred typing although i think there wasn't enough space at time for all the info i gathered. it was enough. i wish i had a bit more time for PN but i think it is enough though. given the time constraint, i rather have more time with the SP than writing the PN.
My Advice & My Errors:PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE. i wish i took a class so that i had someone to practice with regularly, esp my PE skills. and that is a regret of mine. I did history-taking with some family and close friends, but not PE, it was so awkward to ask them. But you have to get over your nervousness. I wish i did. But always be friendly and smile. and make eye-contact with SP. take a deep breath before going in and say their name as well. And try to enjoy yourself and be happy, even when nervous, it will show. talk to them. In writing the PN, remember to practice a normal PE note. and from there, edit your findings from the SP encounter. i did that, and i think that helped. i mean, if i only listened to heart and lungs, i still noted the HEENT findings as well, and extremities. a visual inspection is key. even in the beginning i would tell the SP, i just want to take a quick look at your head and neck and fingers and toes. enough for the PE. and always write if they have scars and tattoos. it shows you really did a PE. Make sure you also note down any distinct features you see - like tattoos - So the scorer will know that i actually did a visual inspection.
My Stay / Cost / Travel to Center:I decided at the last-minute to get a hotel, so i ended up staying outside of Philadelphia, in Cherry Hill, NJ for $90. It was literally 15 minutes away since my test was in the PM, there was no traffic. I had to pay for parking. There is a lot literally across the street from the center, which was $20 and open all night. i saw a cheaper one around the corner but it was open only until midnight and i wasn't sure how long the test would last. And then drove home from Philadelphia, which was 2 hours from NY. but it was fine for me. Philadelphia is a beautiful city but i had the text during the freshman move-in days for the local colleges and university in the area, so there were no hotels available that were close to the center. But if i could have gotten a hotel in the city, i would have stayed an extra night.
