| Abstract (about 50 words): | In the era of omnipresent globalization universities are very often forced to implement numerous marketing strategies in order to promote and at the same time sell their services i.e. courses and programs, to prospective students.
The aim of the presentation is to share the results of the study of linguistic tools of persuasion and advertising which have been implemented in the selected online welcome addresses ( a corpus of over 90,000 running words) of the university presidents of American state universities.
