My Opinion is...:I like Pittsburgh, I was born and raised here, so I'm going to have ties to it. I think Pittsburgh is a racist city, although not quite as racist as it was while growing up. (I'm 37) There are still obstacles to face here, but I think that African Americans that were born here focus on race way too much, and although racism here is a little more blatant than some other areas, I think Blacks living in almost any city will have their own story of racial episodes to share. I think that many of them have already told themselves that they can't do anything here.I often think if Blacks in other cities (Atl, D.C, Charlotte)had thought the way we do here, they would have never grown to the cities that so many of us want to move to. I think that lack of black unity here is actualy a worse factor than the actual racism coming from white people, but few of us seem to see this. Pittsburgh is currently undergoing a natonal resurgence, and I think I think that wonderful forums like the soulpitt are overdue in this city, and I think that this forum and the magazine, will help unite the black community here as it should have been years ago, and help us too become an inclusive part in Pittsburgh's "second wind" from here on.
