My Opinion is...:I grew up in SW PA, still call it home and miss it. Yet, while I was there, I never felt as though I belonged due to the brokenness of my family. I lived in Pittsburgh my last five years (1983 - 1988) in PA.

Pittsburgh was truly a tough city to live in. Racism and ethnocentrism were as intense then as they were, and surely still are, in New York and Philadelphia. (It's been many years since I've been up North.) At the same time, I have to say that these very issues plague our entire country.

Something to consider: As more and more people from different countries continue to come here, things are just not going to improve until we go full force and master the system in place. We do this by participating fully in it (i.e. getting an education, working hard from entry level positions up, staying informed about new and up-coming ways of doing things and uses for technology, as well as being open to relocating to get the necessary experience to bring home and prove that you can do what you want to do.) When you can talk as well as or better than your opponent, it is extremely hard for him to deny you.

Back to the races: There is a lot of interesting history about the races in SW PA that most do not know about. Some would rather that history be kept secret. You see, the truth is that many folks with opinions about each other are likely to be related. Festering since before the 1700’s, this is just a big wound that cannot heal until all is out in the open. The 150th anniversary of the Civil War is coming up, sure would be a good time to look into some genealogy records. Granted, knowing about it does not resolve differences, but it does bring more cards onto the table. (It sure made a difference to me.)

Finally, I want to share that I am glad to see that Soul Pitt has provided a medium for sharing and leading the community. I wish everyone the very best in the new decade!
